What will you find among the ashes of Burning Words?

A Captain’s Log, a 500 Year Diary, an ogle into the world of an indie filmmaker and aspiring comic book creator.

I’m Jacob de la Rosa. For more than 15 years, I’ve been an independent filmmaker. I’ve written, produced, and directed short films, music videos, a web series, and the feature film Break Glass in Case Of… featuring Doctor Who’s Tom Baker.

Photos by Dan Irving, Andrew Tingley, Scott Baisden, and Andrew Pruim. Break Glass in Case Of… and After Visiting Hours posters designed by Scott Baisden. Real American poster designed by Kyleah Orwig.

I think of myself as a writer first, everything else second. After completing my web series Real American, I thought I was done with filmmaking, and my new ambition became writing for comic books. I let the sun set on my film studio, Perelandra Pictures. From its ashes, Cinder rose like a phoenix.

Originally, Cinder was only going to be about comic books. Then I felt that familiar call to make another film…

A fan film about The Shadow. But unlike my previous films, I’m not doing this one unless I can raise an adequate budget and pay everyone involved. So maybe The Shadow will happen, maybe it won’t. No matter the outcome, writing for comic books remains a primary goal.

Here is where I’ll share (and likely overshare) the process and progress of my endeavors, in film or in comic books. You’ll see the work that goes into indie creative entertainment.
